Art CareersArtists become famous by getting their name spread throughout the community and beyond. Their art is associated with their name. Networking is not just for business gurus anymore. Artists must socialize, network and promote the art that they can provide. An art business card makes the promotion of the artist easy and quick. It can also give a taste of what the artist can offer.
Background for Art Business Cards
Art is what an artist produces. The background of an art business card should be a glimpse of the artist's work. A digital picture of a painting, drawing, sculpture or other art media can be resized and compressed to fit into the background. An artist may also choose to draw, paint or design a specific image just for their art business cards. This will give the receiver of the business card an impression of the artwork that the artist is capable of. An artist's business card that uses a pre-designed layout or a piece of art not their own may cause doubt that the artist is very creative or original. A business card with new, fresh art created by the person on the card makes a good first impression.
Large Name for Artist
An artist gets known by their name, not just the artwork she creates. On a business card this name should be large and memorable. A legible font that is easy to read should be used to make the name stand out. The name of the artist should be centered and the color used should make the name bold and recognizable. Although the name should be large, it should not take up the whole space of the art business card. Some space is needed on the card for other information. The name of the artist is the most important piece of information the receiver of the business card can pick up so it should be large, simple and elegant.
Necessary Information on Card
An art business card needs to be simple. A list of services, specials and deals is not needed and can take away from the memorability of the artist. Contact information is a must on business cards. Under the name on the card should be a phone number where the artist can be contacted. A studio address or an art show venue address can also be placed on the card where the receiver of the business card can see the art work produced by the artist on the card.
Optional Information on Art Business Cards
Art business card information should be condensed or kept to a minimum of the necessities like name, address and phone number. However, sometimes it is necessary to add other information if the artist travels frequently or only wishes to be contacted a certain way. The artist named on the card may prefer to be contacted in person or by email instead of by phone. This should be mentioned on the card. If email is the preferred method of communicating then the phone number should be replaced with the email address for contacting. If the artist wants to be contacted in person then it should be mentioned on the card along with where the artist can be found.
Website of Artist
The website address of the artist should be somewhere on the card. This is vital to an artist's livelihood. Art can be sold online to numerous places and get the artist's name out in the world. Putting the website of the artist on the business card can give the recipient the option to purchase artwork that is readily available, commission the artist for future work and view a sampling of the artist's creations.
