Art EducationOverview
The Art Institute of Tennessee at Nashville is located at 100 Centerview Drive. The school is a branch of the Art Institute of Atlanta. It offers training in interior and graphics design, fashion, general studies, media arts and cooking. Examples of general studies courses include art history, film, math, critical thinking, chemistry and nutrition. Started in 2006, the private college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The art institute is licensed by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. The highest degree the school offers is a bachelor's degree. The school offers financial aid, including federal, state and institutional grants and loans.
Academic Cycles
Students may apply to the school throughout the year. Quarterly academic sessions begin in January, April, July and October. A school admissions committee, made up of faculty members, reviews applicants and makes the final decision whether to accept them.
Admissions Requirements
In addition to meeting ACT score requirements and submitting an admissions application, prospective students must write an essay and sign an enrollment agreement. Prospective students must also interview with an assistant admissions director. Depending on the circumstances, you might be able to complete the interview over the telephone. High school transcripts or general educational development (GED) scores are required with the non-refundable application fee and a tuition deposit. The tuition deposit is refundable. High school seniors who want to participate in the annual contest to receive a scholarship must also submit artwork when they apply to the school.
Admittance Tests
Prospective students are required to take and pass either the COMPASS or the ASSET test. These standard general admissions tests are often used for admission to art colleges and universities. However, if you score high enough on the SAT or ACT, you can gain entrance to the school with those test scores.
Required ACT Test Scores
You must score 21 on the ACT to be considered for admission to the art institute. Should you not achieve the minimum score, you must take and pass the COMPASS test before you can enroll at the college. According to ACT News, the 2008 national average for the test was 21.1. The highest score that you can earn on the ACT test is 36. The ACT writing section is optional for admittance to the art institute.
