Art EducationOverview
The Art Institute of Atlanta is located at 6600 Peachtree Dunwoody Road in Atlanta, Georgia. As noted at the institute's official website, the school was started in 1949. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 1999, the school's 50th year, the art institute moved to its present-day facility. Most of the students who attend the institute are residents of the state of Georgia. Financial aid is offered by the school for eligible students. According to the College Board about 3,187 students attend the co-ed college, which offers associates and bachelor's degrees. Of the total number of students who apply to the school, approximately 46 percent are accepted for enrollment. One way to increase your chances of being accepted to the Art Institute of Atlanta is to achieve excellent test results on the ACT.
Admissions Requirements
In addition to meeting ACT score requirements, first time students must complete an interview with an assistant admissions director. In some instances, the school will allow you to complete the interview over the telephone. Students must also write an essay and complete and submit an admission application. High school transcripts for each year that you attended high school or general educational development (GED) scores are required with the non-refundable application fee and a tuition deposit. The tuition deposit is refundable.
Admittance Tests
You must submit your COMPASS test scores. COMPASS and ASSET are standard tests students take for admission to art colleges and universities. The tests measure your skill level in reading, language and math. If you did not take the COMPASS or ASSET tests, you may submit SAT or ACT test scores to be considered for admission. You are required to take the COMPASS test on-site at the Atlanta Art Institute.
ACT Scores
When you take the ACT test, use 5429 for the school code number so that your test scores go to the art institute. If you use your ACT test scores, you are not required to take the writing section of the test for admission to the school.
You must achieve a score of 21 on the ACT to be admitted to the school.
Average ACT Scores
Should you not achieve the minimum score, you must take and pass the COMPASS test before you can enroll at the college. According to ACT News, the 2008 national average for the test was 21.1. The highest score that you can earn on the ACT test is 36.
