Art for KidsEntertaining children can be a chore for some, but it doesn't have to be. If you can come up with creative ways to entertain your children, you can keep them busy for hours. One way to spark creativity in your children is by giving them arts and crafts projects to do. The arts and crafts projects do not need to be complicated to entertain your kids. They will enjoy putting together their project, and have a sense of accomplishment when they finish it. They can then keep it for themselves or give it to a loved one.
Paint
While paint can be messy, it's something that a lot of kids enjoy playing with. To make painting slightly less messy and even more fun, use an egg carton to put paints in. Leave a few of the egg holders empty so your kids can mix colors. Teach them how mixing certain colors make new colors, then give them either a blank sheet of paper or a drawing to paint.
Cut and Paste
Locate a pair of child-safe scissors and some glue. Give your children an assortment of colored sheets of construction paper and instruct them to come up with their own designs and to paste them onto the paper. This can be done with holiday themes.
For Halloween cut out a pumpkin for each child, and let them cut and paste the eyes, nose and mouth to make their own jack-o'-lantern. For Thanksgiving give each child a cut-out turkey and let her design her own hat, eyes and feather. Christmas is another good theme: Give them a cut-out tree and let each child cut out and paste his own ornaments onto the tree.
Hand Puppets
Cut out pieces of felt for your children. Let them place glue along the edges to attach one piece on top of the other. Then have your children glue pieces of felt on for the puppet's arms, legs, hair and other body parts. They can even create their own glue-on clothes for the puppet.
Homemade Holiday Cards
Allowing your children to create their own holiday cards accomplishes two goals. It brings out the creativity in your child, and it also saves you money versus purchasing overpriced cards. Use construction paper, scissors, glue and magic markers to allow each child to design his own cards. These can be for any holiday you choose.
