Framing a canvas painting is a bit tricky but it can be done. It is a delicate process that calls for intense attention to detail so that you can be sure you keep the painting in tact and also have a smooth finished presentation. Once you get all of the necessary tools needed to properly frame your painting the rest is just a matter of putting it all together carefully.
Steps
Step 1
Measure the picture. Use a measuring tape to get the exact measurements of your picture so that you can get the correct sized picture frame.
Step 2
Choose the type of frame you want to compliment your picture. You want to choose the correct color frame that will compliment your picture. There is also the option to add what is called a linen liner to the frame. This is an extra piece that goes around the edge of your picture before you attach the actual frame.
Step 3
Pick the type of covering. Choose the type of glass you want to cover the front of the picture. Sometimes a picture calls for a very clear glass while other pictures may look better with a smoky effect covering or with no covering at all.
Step 4
Place the picture on the mat of the frame. After you have chosen the aesthetic attributes of the picture, you now want to put it all together. Therefore, you first want to take the picture and carefully place it on the matting-back part of the frame.
Step 5
Put the covering on the inside of the frame. Now you want to take the other part the actual frame itself and the covering and place the covering inside of the frame so that it fits securely. Lay this part facedown on a flat surface.
Step 6
Attach the frame to the picture. Take the mat and the picture and carefully place it inside of the frame. After you have done this, secure the frame to the matting by pulling the tabs provided with the frame to attach to the mat. After this is done you want to turn the frame over and see if the picture is correctly placed inside of the frame. If it is not, then you will have to place the picture face down on the flat surface and unsecure the tabs and rearrange the picture so that it is evenly distributed throughout the frame. Once this is done, you can proceed to attach the frame to the mat and hang your framed picture.
