Art is full of different creations, from paintings to sculptures, films to photographic pieces. Just as often, there are pieces that reflect many types of art. This is called mixed media art. It involves the combination of art fields to create something new and different. Over the course of modern art history, there have been a number of different professional artists who have worked in the realm of mixed media and who have created intelligent and stimulating pieces. The following are just a few of the famous mixed media artists who have made an impact on the art world.
Joseph Cornell
Joseph Cornell was born December 24, 1903. He attended Philips Academy for 3 1/2 years, but did not graduate. During his artistic career, he worked in many mediums, but became mainly famous for his experimental film work and his mixed media pieces. Most famous are his pieces known as Joseph Cornell Boxes. With these, he would put together various found objects and artwork into a box. This would create something revolving around a specific theme or emotion. Many of these boxes are interactive and meant to be handled by other people. They are also the main works from his life that are displayed in art museums today.
Tapiezo
Tapiezo is a famous modern French artist who creates mixed media painting works. He incorporates many materials into his painting, such as sand, wire pieces and wood. Some of his paintings also include objects, such as brushes that are added to give the piece depth. He is best known for promoting therapy through his work as a means to limit aggression. His work brings together unity of many different parts that may not normally work together, and this approach to his work has invited the attention of gallery owners and modern art collectors across the world.
Joseph Giunta
Joseph Giunta was a mixed media artist who had a career that lasted for 70 years. His mixed media collage work was done from 1974 to 2001, at the time of his death. Before this, he worked in painting and sculpting, often incorporating organic painting and geometric pieces. His mixed media collage work consisted of various flat pieces that were combined together to create a work that had depth and style. They incorporated the artist's prior works into new pieces that quickly caught on with modern art galleries and critics.
