Overview

caring bronze sculptures : Overview
A bronze sculpture can be a handsome addition to any home's decor. Unfortunately, bronze, like all metals, will oxidize over time and develop a greenish hue called a patina. Follow these steps to preserve the surfaces of your bronze sculptures.

Step 1

Display your bronze sculpture in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Never store your bronze sculpture in an area of high heat and humidity, such as a basement or attic.

Step 2

Dust the surface of your bronze sculpture with a soft cloth rag. Dust on a regular basis to ensure the surface of your bronze sculpture remains damage free.

Step 3

Once or twice a year, apply a thin, even coat of wax to the surface of your bronze sculpture with a soft-bristled brush.

Step 4

Wait several hours until the wax is completely dry.

Step 5

Polish your bronze sculpture with a clean, soft cloth rag. Wear gloves when polishing your bronze sculpture so as not to leave fingerprints on the surface.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Speak with a local art gallery to determine which waxes are safe for bronze. One recommended wax is Mohawk Blue Label Paste Wax.
